London, UK, 15 June, 2023: TransitionZero, a climate analytics not-for-profit, announced it has appointed Oxford Earth Observation Co-founder Lucas Kruitwagen as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He will be responsible for providing overall technical leadership and developing the technology strategy for the organisation, working closely across departments to ensure technical solutions are aligned with TransitionZero’s objectives and values, while maintaining a strong technical culture with inclusivity, efficiency and innovation at its core. 

Since joining Transitionzero in September 2022 as Head of Technology, Kruitwagen has doubled the size of the technology function, including establishing infrastructure, heavy industry and commodity data teams. He has been leading the development of TransitionZero’s groundbreaking open-source energy systems modelling platform, Future Energy Outlook (FEO), which requires an in-depth understanding of data engineering across a range of disciplines, including machine learning and energy systems modelling. 

Prior to TransitionZero, Kruitwagen founded Oxford Earth Observation, a water-risk intelligence company. He holds a DPhil in geography and the environment from the University of Oxford, an MSc from Imperial College London and a BEng from McGill University. He was also a visiting researcher at Stanford University.
