TransitionZero partners with Sustainable Energy for All on open-source energy transition planning

London, UK, 4 October, 2023: Climate analytics not-for-profit TransitionZero is partnering with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to provide energy transition planning in the Global South through open-source energy systems modelling.

SEforALL and TransitionZero will collaborate on a range of ongoing initiatives that will strengthen SEforALL’s Energy Transition Planning model, which is used to develop decarbonisation strategies in countries with low energy access and grid expansion challenges.

TransitionZero will collaborate with SEforALL for model validation, performance, and the development of new features and functionality for its current Energy Transition Planning modelling framework, as well as collaborate on training and stakeholder capacity-building to improve the use of energy systems models to support energy transition planning.

The objective of the partnership is to accelerate action towards achieving the greenhouse gas and global temperature objectives of the Paris Agreement, and to advance the delivery of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which calls for universal access to sustainable energy by 2030.

SEforALL was originally established to spearhead the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative. Now, as an independent international organisation, SEforALL continues to work with leaders in government, the private sector and civil society to accelerate progress towards SDG7 and other pressing climate, energy and sustainability goals.

Matt Gray, Co-founder and CEO of TransitionZero, commented:

“I’m delighted that TransitionZero has partnered with SEforALL, which is doing crucial work to transform lives and fight climate change by improving access to sustainable energy. This dovetails with our mission to empower partners to deliver clean energy for all. We look forward to using our expertise in open data and modelling tools to support SEforALL’s initiatives.”

Brian Dean, Director of Energy Transition at Sustainable Energy for All, said:

“Together with TransitionZero, we have an opportunity to provide best-in-class analytics with a like-minded organisation that supports open-source analytics and makes data-driven decision- making easier than ever. We look forward to making an impact together in increasing the capacity for more countries and partners to use improved data and tools for energy transition planning.”
