TransitionZero partners with the GIZ Energy Programme Indonesia / ASEAN to support Indonesia’s Energy Transition
Collaboration to support Indonesia in its move towards a sustainable energy system and achievement of government targets
Media release
London, 14 November, 2024: Climate analytics not-for-profit TransitionZero is partnering with the GIZ Energy Programme Indonesia/ASEAN (GIZ) to support Indonesia in its move towards a sustainable energy system and achieve government targets, including a 23 per cent share of renewable energy in the energy mix by 2025 and power sector decarbonisation.
GIZ, through its support of the Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE) programme, is focused on assisting Southeast Asian countries, namely Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam with climate change mitigation and adaptation goals. TransitionZero develops open energy transition planning products that are already being used across Southeast Asia, including by the Philippine government.
As part of the agreement, GIZ and TransitionZero will promote technical cooperation and foster exchange of knowledge and experience to bolster modelling capacity across Indonesia’s Academic Energy Centers (AECs). This will include access to TransitionZero’s open energy modelling tools and expert training and support. The partnership will strengthen collaboration between stakeholders and build out necessary capabilities to achieve a sustainable energy system for the country.
Matt Gray, Co-founder and CEO of TransitionZero, commented:
“We are looking forward to working with GIZ to assist Indonesia reach its energy transition goals. Building capacity across skills, knowledge and technical capabilities is crucial in aligning strategy with practical outcomes. Our open modelling and data products and local experts will support Indonesia on its journey towards a secure and sustainable energy future.”
Lisa Tinschert, Director Energy Programme Indonesia/ASEAN at GIZ, said:
"Through this partnership with TransitionZero, we are advancing our mission to equip Indonesia’s Academic Energy Centers with the technical expertise needed to support national energy goals. The capacity-building activities under this MoU, particularly in energy modelling, will play a pivotal role in enabling data-driven policy decisions that align with Indonesia’s long-term energy transition objectives. TransitionZero’s tools and expertise will be invaluable in this process, contributing significantly to efficient energy planning and policy development.”
